Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Not the students at PSA Civic Leadership High School!

On Friday, February 23, 2018, nine senior students handed out free lunches as a thank you “Day of Kindness” to firefighters, police, and emergency medical personnel in South Windsor, East Windsor, and Enfield for all they do for their communities.

The students were inspired to give something back to these first responders by the Parkland, Florida school shooting last week. “In the face of tragedies such as these, which are becoming all too common, there is always a huge outpouring of support for the victims, and rightfully so. Our school community is preparing to do all that it can to support the victims, but we also wanted to reach out to our public safety entities because they are often forgotten in the fray,” said school Principal Jeff Larson. “It’s our way of thanking them.”

The students are also extending an invitation to join the school’s new advisory board to help enhance the school’s civic leadership theme. With funds received through the U.S. Department of Education’s Magnet School Assistance Program, the school is strengthening its focus on civic engagement, public service, and leadership. The school offers coursework and hands-on, community-based experiences for students in these areas, along with new opportunities for students to earn college credit while in high school.
